Edward Champion has created the website The Bat Segundo Show. On this website there are podcasts of interviews Champion has done with various guests on cultural and literary issues.
The interview Champion did with Azar Nafisi author of ‘Things I’ve been Silent About’ and ‘Reading Lolita in Tehran’ was a fascinating insight into memoirs and the concept of authenticity. They talked about how pictures (photographs), while lending authenticity to a memoir through the provision of evidence, may affect the authenticity of the authors’ memory. The example they gave was the way a person’s smile is captured in a picture can influence the way you remember that person. Azar Nafisi and Champion also discussed questions regarding what a memoir should be and how accurate it’s content.
